Acyl Anion Equivalent

A acyl anion equivalent is a carbanion that functions in a reaction or a reaction sequence as would an acyl anion, which is not available for synthetic purposes.

eg:



Carbanion 2, derived from 1,3-dithiane 3, is an equivalent of the acyl anion 1, which can not be generated in a synthetically useful manner.
