Autocatalysis is the phenomenon that in some reactions a product can act as a catalyst of the reaction.  For example, if a reaction can be catalyzed by an acid and if one of the products of the reaction is an acid, the reaction is subjected to autocatalysis.  For a specific example, see alpha halogenation.
