Percent Transmittance

The percent transmission, y axis of an infrared spectrum, is defined as follows.

If the sample absorbs no light, I = Iο; percent transmittance = 100%.  If the sample absorbs the light completely, I = 0; percent transmittance = 0.  Thus, the greater the amount of light absorbed by the sample, the smaller the percent transmittance.
