Resolution

Resolution or optical resolution is the separation of enantiomers in a racemic mixture.  The most common method of resolution is to convert the racemic mixture into a mixture of diastereomers by reacting it with a single enantiomer of a chiral reagent, known as the resolving agent, separate the components of the mixture of diastereomers, and chemically convert each diastereomer into the corresponding enantiomer.
